Today I’m grateful that:
- Osama bin Laden is dead! It’s strange to rejoice over the killing of a human being, but the joy feels completely appropriate. Justice is sweet.
- There are men and women serving the United States of America whose bravery and strength is beyond measure. I’m so grateful for those who laid down their lives on 9/11/2001 and in various ways in the years since then, and particularly the total bad-asses who busted into bin Laden’s compound and took him out yesterday. And I’m grateful for the wisdom and courage of those in the administration, from President Obama on down the line, to conduct such an awe-inspiring mission.
- I was given free tickets to the Red Sox game tonight. What a festive, special atmosphere — From the Army veteran throwing out the first pitch, to the members of both teams spontaneously lining up on the field for the anthem as they normally only do on Opening Day or in the playoffs, to the service men and women standing in formation below the Green Monster as the massive American flag unfurled from atop the wall, to the spontaneous chants of “U.S.A.! U.S.A! U.S.A.!” throughout the game, to stirring renditions of our anthem and God Bless America … I’m so grateful to have shared in the pride coursing through Fenway Park.
