Today I’m grateful that: My mother made it through surgery successfully. There were two possible outcomes. One would mean being quite uncomfortable for 2-3 months and then back in the hospital for another surgery. Luckily she will not be dealing with that outcome. Good thing the spleen is mostly not important, because my mom no longer has one!

Today I’m grateful that: Chad got me the John Adams HBO miniseries for Christmas, and being snowed in the last few days has allowed us to already finish the whole thing. Truly fascinating look at the birth of our country, the lasting relationship between John and Abigail Adams, and the long friendship between John and Thomas Jefferson. Couldn’t recommend it more highly! I grew up...

Today I’m grateful for simple and sometimes silly traditions. My family’s Christmas Eve traditions include: Pizza: an easy meal for all, which is especially nice during this very busy time. Playing Trivial Pursuit: I’m grateful my brother this year brought out a new version of Trivial Pursuit that involves betting on the likelihood of right and wrong answers. Loved it! Though...

Today I’m grateful for: The annual Christmas party with the Yakkin’ Sullivans (my grandmother’s term for us all) — always a good time! I feel very lucky to have so many family members that I love spending time with. Old traditions: It’s a long story, but this bottle of Manishewitz (that’s right, Manishewitz) has been in this very Irish Catholic family for many...
